I wanted to know the names of some vegan or vegetarian restaurants in St. Kitts. Also, do they sell tofu, seitan, and lentils in the grocery stores? If so, what are the names of these grocery stores?

UMHS 2012 Facebook Graduation Photos
In the UMHS Facebook graduation photos, 21 student graduated. On the UMHS website, 17 match sites were listed. I know that a graduation photos may not be a complete representation of an enitre graduating class because some student who graduated may not have attended the graduation, some people who may have graduated in 2011 may have applied for residencies in 2012, or some students who graduated in 2012 may not be applying for residencies until 2013. Also, the amount of student who matched may not actually be 17 based on the fact that they listed 17 sites because more than one person could have matched into one site as in 2011 at University of Nevada (Reno, NV)-Internal Medicine.
Therefore, my question is how many UMHS students actually applied for residencies for 2012 and how many actually matched.

Texts needed for Med 1?
I've just been accepted for September, and now I only have a month left to get everything together. I haven't received the text list yet, and was wondering if any other incoming students could tell me what we need.
Thanks!

Greenbook vs Greenbook Umbrella
So I've been doing some research on the difference between greenbook vs greenbook umbrella.
I've noticed that we have many students doing rotations in Michigan and Pennsylvania, two states which DO NOT accept greenbook umbrella rotations.
Can someone tell me which are the IM, Surgery, and Psych rotations we have at UMHS that these individuals are rotating in in order to get 100% greenbook and NOT greenbook umbrella.
If you get your cores under the Umbrella it looks like you'll lose about 12 states or so... Does anyone have more information on this?

2012 Student with UMHS questions
hey you guys, I'm moving to UMHS in a month or so and I have been looking through these threads and they are all from last year.
I had a couple of questions if you can help:
1. Are there spots to buy Indian food (I'm indian)/ indian groceries
2. what would you def recommend that one should bring to UMHS that you can't really buy from st. Kitts?
3. how are the prepaid simcards there? should I buy unlocked phone here or there so I can text and call the U.S?
4. I was reading articles about the crime rate in st. Kitts....is it that bad?
5. I will be staying at Royal St. Kitts hotel for the first semester, what is the best place to find an apartment with a good deal on electricity etc, as the hotel is pretty expensive? Where do most live? I heard UMHS has a shuttle to take you to campus...should I look for a car?
6. Does UMHS give free printing?
7. What bank account is the best to work with, as I need to have both access to U.S currency and EC currency? Do all places accept U.S currency?
8. Do visitors for 4 days or so need visa if they are U.S citizens?
9. Last but not least.....Does anyone know anyone looking for a female roommate :-D ....The hotel is quite expensive so I don't plan on staying there the whole semester.
I bothered UMHS alot about all these so I decided to ask here too.
Also I wanted to know, I want to practice one day in NY/NJ area...I heard you need all green book rotations. How does one go about attaining green book rotations. I know I have a yr or so left but I'd like to get started.
Thanks!

UMHS vs St. James
Hey everyone,
My name is Kurt. I'm accepted in to St. James Anguilla campus for January 2013, but I'm having second thoughts about the school. I'm concerned that it might not be the most legitimate school for my money. I applied to AUA last year and was granted an interview, but not accepted. I'm also applying to Ross for May 2013, but I doubt I will get acceptance there.
Does anyone have any direct comparisons between UMHS and St. James?

UMHS vs extra semester at AUA
Looking for advice:
I got direct admission to start at UMHS this September 2012. However was placed in the Basic Science Enhancement Program at AUA, with successful completion of this four month program guaranteeing my admission to the Basic Sciences program for February 2013. I realize that matching is become increasingly difficult with each passing year and as I am a Canadian I will be funding my education through a private student line of credit so the loan situation doesn't affect me.
Does AUA having NY and Cali approval make it work taking the gamble with the BSEP program vs. direct admission at UMHS? I have to make a decision pretty soon so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Acceptance into UMHS
I have been recently accepted into UMHS for JAN 2012 Med 1. In the enrollment packet, it indicates that I need to send in my seat deposit a month after acceptance. How strict is this rule? Obviously I need a little more time deciding because I am waiting on other schools as well. Sep 9th is exactly a month away from my acceptance.
Another question: I have also been accepted into MUA pre medical program. Anybody have thoughts between UMHS med 1 and MUA premedical. the premedical program is 2 whole semesters but I am considering it because finishing the course might help me get into a better med school (ross, SGU, etc)

Winter 2013 Acceptance
Hey everyone, I have been accepted at UMHS EBS Winter 2013 entry. Now I am totally clueless about the life on the island and whatever else goes with it. I have been trying to gather information from forums and teleconferences. But most of the threads are rather negative feedback and obviously the teleconference was all positive (to be expected). But what I really want to know is a true feedback from someone who has had the experience living on the island and the preparation for the USMLs. Any insight is appreciated.

In-school loan quesstion?
I have asked the financial aid department several times if the institutional loan would be around for the next couple of semesters, yet no one, as usual, will get back to me. Does anyone if they are planning on having it? I am about to move across the country in a few days and start clinicals, but will only be able to do them if this loan is still offered. Thanks!

Umhs
If anyone is interested in learning more about UMHS from a student in the last semester of the basic science program, please post to this thread and I will get back to you ASAP. I am moving on to Maine in about 3 weeks but I would love to help you make your decision to attend this university. I can answer any questions you might have from a students prospective. I would only ask that if you apply, you use me as a referral.
Thank you,
Darcy

Transfer Dilemma
Hi all
I am currently an MD3 Student at Saint James School of Medicine. The school is currently going through some accreditation issues, which may or may not be resolved before the accreditation deadline, the later being the more likely outcome. The accreditation issues do not directly affect me since I will be off the island by the time a decision is made, but it is more than likely that the school will become a satellite of Saint James Anguilla...thereby automatically demoting it from a 13 yr old school to a 3 yr old one. I feel this will greatly hurt my chances of landing a competitive residency.
Saint James is admittedly not the greatest school, but considering the low tuition, it is certainly better than a lot of the non 1st or 2nd tier schools out there. Being in Saint James has forced me to build my work ethic and become an independent student. I dont need to be spoon-fed or babied to prepare for the STEPS....as long as I have my books and time, I am golden.
A little about my background, I have a decent undergraduate GPA (not competitive enough to effortlessly gain admission into an American/Canadian school, but decent nevertheless). I also have a masters degree and a couple of years of professional work experience in the health industry. In med school, I've proven to be a straight A student and only have a single B in my transcript.
I applied to UMHS, and was accepted provided I repeat my MD3 semester, thereby setting me back another four months. I think UMHS is a great school, and given a few years, it will definitely be among the second tier schools.
So my Q is, do you think it is a good idea to transfer to UMHS now, although I am just 5 months away from completing my basic sciences? Is it worth it to be set back another four months.?
Is it more advisable to transfer after the USMLE step 1?
I emailed AUC, Saba, St. Georges and MUA.....they absolutely do not accept transfers into their school post-USMLE. (you have to start over from MD1) Absolutely not is what they said. :(
I greatly appreciate your input

where UMHS grads can't apply for residency ?
Hey guys I'm considering transferring to UMHS fifth semester and I want to know what my options are if I'm graduating from this school
I've been searching for hours but I couldn't find a clear answer
So I know that UMHS grads can't apply for NY & Cali since they don't have approval, yet. But are there other states where UMHS grads can't apply ?

Shelf exams important for residency ?
I know that the shelf exam score its self is not seen by the residency programs
But I'm wondering if it's important for residency programs to see that I graduated from a school that has shelf exams for the rotations
anyone knows something about this ?
